YTAA 2016

YTAA 2016 received 211 Graduation Projects submissions that had been presented between August 1 2015 and July 31 2016 from over 100 Schools that registered from all over Europe.

Within the frame of the 15th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the YTAA 2016 Granting Ceremony took place at Teatro Piccolo Arsenale in Venice on October 28th 2016, when the Jury announced and awarded the three Winners among nine Finalists of the Award.

European Architecture Schools show their Graduation Projects – YTAA 2016 is the exhibition that presents now these 211 projects all together. The exhibition has been designed as an easy download and print format to keep things simple and accesible for any Architecture School and Institution which wishes to host it.

Jose Luis Vallejo (President)

Jose Luis Vallejo (President)

Bsc and Masters in Architecture and Urban Design (1999) ETSAM, Universidad Politécnica Madrid. Thesis with grade of Distinction. Bsc in Architecture (1997) Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. He is founder and director of the firm Ecosistema Urbano established in 2000 in Madrid.

He has led workshops, lectured and taught at the most prestigious institutions worldwide. Since 2010 he is faculty at the Architecture and Urban Design Department at Harvard University Graduate School of Design.

Ecosistema Urbano is specialized in urban consultancy projects, public space quality assessment and leads urban transformation processes working for local, national governments and multilateral agencies. Since 2000, Ecosistema Urbano has received prizes and awards in more than 40 occasions by numerous international organizations and their work has been covered by media from more than 30 countries. In 2007 their project Ecoboulevard was one of the  40 shorlisted for the European Union Prize for contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe Award.

Triin Ojari

Triin Ojari

She was born in Tallinn, and she graduated at the Estonian Academy of Art, in Tallinn in 1996, with a degree in art history. Architect, critic and architectural historian, she is the director of the Museum of Estonian Architecture since 2014. She worked as curator at the Museum of Estonian Architecture since 1994 to 2000. From 2001 to 2013 she was editor-in-chief of the MAJA review, one of the most important Estonian architecture journals. She is also a member of the Estonian Docomomo group, and since 2011 she is at the head of the Society of Estonian Art Historians. She has written on Estonian 20th century architecture and the heritage of the Modern Movement, and also on urban planning and residential architecture in the USSR. Some significant main publications are Positions: Articles on Architecture, 1992-2011; 21st Century House: New Estonian Residential Architecture, 2007. She is a member of the board of experts of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture and the European Prize for Urban Public Space.

Juulia Kauste

Juulia Kauste

She holds on a Master of Arts degree in Sociology in New York and a Master of Science degree in Urban Studies in Milwaukee. She earned her bachelor of Art degree in Art History in Helsinki and also continues studding Nordic Languages and Germanic Philology. She has pursued doctoral studies in New York, about the dynamics of multiculturalism in Paris and New York. Sociologist and director of the Museum of Finnish Architecture in Helsinki, since 2010, she is also deputy chairwoman of the Architecture Information Centre Finland since 2012. She was based serving as Executive Director of the Finnish Cultural Institute from 1997 to 2011, and taught at Parsons New School. In this period she curated a large scale international touring exhibition in the fields of art, design and architecture, one of her main projects, among others, being Eero Saarinien: Shaping the Future. From 2010 to 2013, she served as a Board Member at the International Design Foundation, and member of the National Council for Architecture and Design Finland. She contributed to several architecture competitions and prizes as a jury member or advisor, such as Europan 11 competition, the public Space European Prize in 2012 and 2014.

Michał Duda

Michał Duda

Born in Wroclaw, Poland; architecture historian, critic and curator at the Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw. Graduated at the University of Wroclaw (art history), and Jagiellonian University in Cracow (curatorial studies). Author and co-author of many exhibitions – e.g. “Archi-box” – series of exhibitions and installations focused on the different issues of contemporary architecture, “The Wild West. A History of Wrocław’s Avant-garde”, “Whole Sea of Building. Wrocław Architecture 1945-1989”, “Dagarama. Return to the Future”. Recently published the book “Patchwork. The Architecture of Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak”, which accompanied the exhibition by the same title. Co-founder of the “Transformator” Foundation – NGO focused on promoting social values of architecture. Member of the advisory committee of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture.

 

 

Inge Beckel

Inge Beckel

Born in Egypt, education in the Netherlands and in Switzerland. Completing a Master of Architecture at the ETH in Zurich, she started her career at the Building Authorities of the city of Zurich; was chief editor of the weekly magazine tec21, then research assistant at the ETH Zurich and lecturer at the Hochschule Liechtenstein. Today she works as a freelance architecture critic and publicist and pursues a research at the interface of architecture and gender studies at the University of Basel, entitled «Zur Konstruktion des normativen, Nutzers’ in Architektur und Städtebau der Moderne».

Architecture and urban development are – beautiful, complex, atmospheric, ugly, flat, sober, garish, fascinating, modest, authentic, boring, staged, contradictory, and emotional: as multifaceted as life itself.
